"Too used to it? L-" There she went, about to assume things again. "This... unsaid thing, or having someone to talk to?" She asked, puzzled by his words. But if it was love, what was he really scared of? What a curious subject. It had been her experience that once it was set in stone, love took so much time to care for... And she supposed it was probably her fault that she had not invested enough time in it after it had happened each time it had. It was a rather two-sided thing, most of the time.
"Brilliant... I'm sure those extra three seconds would be deadly otherwise, of course?" She grinned.

"No ...I don't know." He sighed, having lost his train of thought. He wasn't sure exactly how to explain it to her. "This 'unsaid thing' I'm not used to 'it', per say, I've gotten used to the feelings I have toward it. So, al in all, because I'm so used to how I feel toward it, I'm numb toward it." He growled, frustrated in how he spoke and how he felt. Irritated with himself and who he was. "Damnit. Nevermind - I just talking nonsense now..."
Returning a light grin and a soft luagh, he answered her last comment,"And yes. those extra three seconds throw it all off."

"No... It's not nonsense, it makes sense." She shrugged. At least it did, in a way, to her. "It's something you've had to deal with before more than once and it always seems to bite you in the ass in the end so you've taken a rather apathetic approach to the whole thing?" She asked, wondering if she was the one that was really rambling on about nonsense. She placed her vacant hand on his shoulder gently, letting him know she was still there.
"I'll remember that next time, then." She said with an amused smirk.

Turning to look at her with an exasperated smile, he nodded lightly. "That's... exactly what I mean." At least, that's how he saw it now. That was only a slice of the pie though... Unfortunately. In truth, it was so much more complicated than that. Like the psychedellic poster on some teenagers wall whose colors had been mixed and blended so many times that picking out the main colors had become nearly impossible.
Looking back to the pots, Fate couldn't help but wonder if he'd become something much like the poster described. Maybe the person he really was, was smeared and twisted, stirred and pulled, broken and changed in so many different ways that it was now highly unlikelyy he would ever be free of all the contortion.
And hell, if he was ever straightened out, would he be able to pick up where he left off? Would he be able to survive like that? He felt selfish for thinking in such ways. Afterall, he was nothing more than a human creation. "I find it curious that you sound so familiar with the topic. Almost sounds like our boats aren't so different."

She looked at him for a moment before looking back to the pots. It still intrigued her that she had never met anyone like him before. All her other friendships had began with pleasantries, evolved into a joyful sort of friendship... And then ended from lack of communication. The same went with her relationships. Ah, relationships. From Moon, to Storm, to Coda... Three. Three, and they'd all promised it'd be different. No such luck. She felt like such a used towel thinking about it, wondering if she really was good for anything as far as that subject was concerned.
Once again, she tried to push the thoughts from her mind, though all they really did was sulk into the corners of it, ebbing slowly into her concious mind bit by bit. She continued to push the noodles around with the fork, making sure they didn't stick together.
At his comment, she looked up once again, coming back to earth. "I've had my share of failures... And oddly enough, I feel rather like I've been making the same mistake over and over again each time."

"I'm sorry to hear that..." His ears folded back with distant thoughts, most of them, oddly enough, about Kai and not his own troubles. "Somehow I don't see it being your mistake though. Either way, it shouldn't be so for someone like yourself."
His eyes stared thoughtfully at the suace that was becoming much more even now, aside from the few chunks of mushrooms here and there. "Sorry, I probably shouldn't be so bold about it."
Once again his eyes traveled from the suace to the light vapors of steam rising from it. He could never figure out why he was so intrigued by the ghosts they formed. They were almost symbolic to him. White pupils shifted sizes from narrow to wide, then quickly to narrow once again.

She shrugged. "You don't need to be sorry... I'm sure you've been through the same sort of thing, if not worse." She said. Looking to him as he made his next comment, she tilted her head slightly. "It shouldn't be so for someone like me? What's that supposed to mean?" She asked, not being defensive, simply curious.
She shook her head at his next comment. "Nah, that's the nice thing about you. You're not afraid to say what you want to say."
As the noodles finished boiling, she turned off the heat underneath them, grabbed a kitchen towel and used it to grab the handle as she gingerly took the cap and poured out the water into the sink.

"Someone with a personality like yours, someone who's like you - you don't deserve it. You deserve to be happy."
He watched her lift the pot and strain the noodles, taking his hand from the spoon, he readied to aid her if she needed any help soon. And as he watched, his mind traipsed over their conversation and questioned why he cared so much for this particular female. Certainly she had been kind and caring, if not motherly at times. He'd had much more intimate relationships with other people though and yet, he was never so attatched to them.
"Actually, I haven't had a 'heartbraking' relationship before." Blinking slowly, he wondered why he'd spat that out. Wondered why he continued even after that... "In fact, it seems I'm the cause of trouble more than I ever intend to be."

"Hmm... But what if it's a sign that I'm meant to be happy with just friends? I seem to be very good at driving others away after becoming more than friends with them." She stated with a slight frown. This, however, soon vanished as she set the pot of noodles back on the lighter (which was no longer lit).
"I think that's good, for now, at least..." She said, tilting her head slightly. "Do you think the sauce is ready?" She asked, shaking her head lightly as her bangs once more made their way in front of her eyes.
"Hm... Well, perhaps you've just never really cared for someone in that way before..." She paused before smiling at his comment. "I take it you're quite the ladies man, then?" She shrugged. "It's not your fault the right person just hasn't come along yet... Girls can be upset, but it's better to be honest than lead them on." She added.

Listening to her, he looked into his suace pot and, though he couldnt be suret, nodded when she asked him if he thought it was done.
Taking his time to think over all she'd just told him, he found that she seemed right...again. And, maybe his case was much like hers. Maybe he was trying to hard to form a lasting relationship with the wrong peope.
Then again, he was well aware of the plight he rought to other willing faes. He was as much a sinner as any demon and a willing heartbreaker when he felt in the mood. He could lure the ladies in and do what he might with them for as long as he liked then drop them like a used towel. He was a cruel man, terrible in his ways. He knew it all and regretted it; yet, time and time again, he would repeat his sins despite his regret. One could say he was addicted to his 'wayward' habits.
Cry little Sister, for the World, if many like Fate exist.
However, he couldn't help but luagh at her 'ladies man' comment'. Even with his hidden reputation, he didn't think of himself as such. "Ladies man?" he questioned, the faint smile still gracing his lips, "You tell me."
"I understand what you mean about finding the right person - and being honest with 'em. I-" he cut himself off before he told her what he'd rather her not know. Quickly filling in the blank, with something else, he managed to keep his words fairly smooth after the cut, "I just can't be sure if I should end it, or if it's just a 'rough' spot."

Glancing over to his pot as he gave no reply, she gave a quick nod. "Looks good to me." She said with a small smile before glancing around. "Plates, forks, perhaps parmesean cheese?" She asked him, giving him suggestions for utensils they could use to prepare for their 'feast.'
And perhaps she was an innocent victim, as she was quite succeptable to being kind to whoever it was that crossed her path, however, she was rarely ever foolishly so. Instinct generally warned her when she was taking the wrong direction, and on occasion, she chose to listen.
She rolled her eyes. "And they say WOMEN fish for compliments." She said, sticking her tongue out at him. "Maybe you are... You said yourself you've broken your share of hearts." She said, quirking a brow at him.
"Well, you never know if they're right if you don't give it a try after all..." She said thoughtfully before coming back to earth as he cut off. She raised a brow, but this time, it was paired with a slight frown. "Well, either way you should let her know... However." She paused, walking over to the sink and beginning to wash her hands. "Are you sure that's what you really meant to say?" She said, that instinct kicking in. That was one thing that was nice about him--He was usually pretty honest. Now that he was being all shady, however, she was a bit concerned. Had she touched upon the skeletons in his closet, or something to that extent?

Again, he nodded after she asked for plates and the like. Moving to the cupboards just to the left and above the stove, he grabbed out the plates and set them on the table in the dinning room, listening to her talk. Coming back for the silverware and cups, he grabbed what he needed and made toward the frdge to see if he had any cheese sprinkling.
Then her last question came and it hit him like an avalanche. He nearly stopped dead cold as he stared into the fridge. He didn't answer. INstead, he acted as if he didn't hear her and grabbed a cylinder of parmesean. Looking over the lable, he sa it was outdated an tossed it into the trash behind him. Grabbing another, this one was miraculously fresh. Who had done his shopping? He'd never buy junk like this on his own.
Mentally shrugging, he hualed his goods to the table and set each object down with a certain sense of care. Seeing the empty glasses, he wondered what they might drink, and what she might be interested in drinking.
Playing on his 'deaf' excuse, he turned toward her and asked, "Wine, water, soda, milk...?" He let his question hang loose toward the end, allowing her to fill in the slight 'blank' with something else if she'd like.

As he set the table, she turned around and watched, wishing she were able to help him, however, as he did take part in the setting of the table, she took a quick note of where many of the things were in his kitchen, for future reference--She hoped this wouldn't be the last time she saw him.
After asking her last question, and being given silence in reply, she bit her lip. Either he hadn't heard her or he was pretending he didn't. Either way, it didn't look like he was too intent on answering now. She would just have to find out what he meant later, at some other point in time.
She shrugged as he asked about what beverage she preferred. "I like everything, so whatever you like is fine with me... Well, anything but milk." She said, aware that it wouldn't suit her taste with spaghetti.

To her answer, he smiled and thought over what might go best with their dinner. A thought quickly struck him, and back into kitchen he went.
First to the fridge, where he pulled a tall bottle quite resembling a wine bottle. This however, was not wine, but sparkling white grape juice. A favorite of his, on certain occasions.
Next, he knelt down to a cupboard near the refridgerator and opened it. Within was a black metal rack which held a small variety of wines. Pulling out a few to read their lables, Fate pulled out the third he touched. An aged red wine, this of which he decided would go best with their pasta and suace.
Positioning the bottles so that they were easily managable -a bottle in each hand - Fate closed the cupboard door with his knee. Then, back to the table he went, setting both fancy glass bottle in the center of the table.
"Voila." he said, finishing his business and turning to face Kai. "What else?" The grin returning now after having faded over the period of his beverage collecting.

As he poked around the kitchen and grabbed the drinks, she smiled lightly, eyeing the bottles with mild curiousity as she looked around the kitchen. "I think that's just about perfect. Unless you prefer to eat by candlelight." She said, jokingly.
Taking the plates from the table, she brought them to the stove and served herself, first heaping on noodles and then piling sauce on top. "Just take as much as you want and we'll be set." She said, glancing over her shoulder at him, wearing a smile.
