Name: Shaemus [Pictured on the left]
Age: 29
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Straight
Personality:
Shaemus is a pretty laid-back guy. Nothing can really get the man riled up or excited. He's your regular, down-to-earth sort of person with a calm, cool energy about him. He's blunt and won't hide what he's thinking, no matter if it might "hurt" someone's feelings or pride. He just doesn't beat around the bush and doesn't respect those who do.
Shaemus enjoys a good night at the bar with his buddies, and loves nothing more than a good Irish ale. He's a pretty calm drunk but tends to open up more after he's ingested a bit of alcohol. He's somewhat religious, but doesn't stop himself from indulging in "sinful" things. Like drinking, gambling, and what have you.
When it comes to his brother, Waylen, He is intensely protective. Waylen is basically his life and the only family he has left. He's taken care of his brother when they were younger and old habits die hard. Shaemus is a mother hen when it comes to his younger brother, and never fails to get on Waylen's nerves. The only time you'll see Shaemus angry is when someone or something has threatened Waylen's well being. The older man has been known to duke it out with people who have harassed Waylen, (even by doing something as harmless as calling the young guy names.)
Name: Waylen
Age: 20
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Homosexual
Personality:
Waylen is a headstrong youth who pretty much thinks he knows everything. (This annoys the hell out of Shaemus.) He's energetic and zealous -- almost to a fault. He portrays himself to the outside world as a very confident and mirthful young man. This, however, is not the case.
Waylen suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder (this will be explained in the history) and is plagued by anxiety attacks, nervous breakdowns, and night terrors. As such Waylen is something of an insomniac and usually whittles his hours away by spending time in the local club. The young man often suffers from fatigue and falls ill because of it. He gets so bad at times that he has to be hospitalized. (Shaemus pays the bills)
He's something of a mooch off of his brother and lives with him in their apartment. Waylen doesn't pay any bills nor does he have a full-time job. He comes and goes as he pleases and often gets angry at Shaemus for "sticking his nose where it doesn't belong." He gets frustrated with Shaemus because the man always treats him like he's something fragile, or in Waylen's words, "He treats me like a goddamned child."
History:
Waylen and Shaemus grew up in a run-down part of Boston. Their father worked as a night manager at a store and their mother as a waitress at the local diner. Their income was never great and often the family lived from paycheck to paycheck. Sigmund, the father, was a strict man with a penchant for drinking. He'd come home drunk nearly every weekend and would inevitably end up in an argument with his wife, Sarah. It was a rare instance, but it did happen -- sometimes the fight would escalate into physical violence.
Waylen was a nervous child back then and every time his father would yell, his stomach would tie into a knot and he'd become dreadfully frightened. He'd often hide in his room, tucked under his covers, as if to block the fighting out. When is mother cried from verbal and physical abuse, so too would Waylen. He hated it more than anything when his father came home drunk and especially when his parent's angry voices echoed through their small home.
Shaemus was Waylen's only source of comfort during those times (and to this day.) The older boy would always sit with Waylen and offer him soothing words or would hold him as he wept. As such the bond between the brothers grew strong and nigh unbreakable. Life was not ideal but they survived. Things, however, would take a turn for the worse.
Sarah fell ill and never recovered. After her death Sigmund drank nearly everyday and turned his depression-spurned anger onto his children. His wrath would often fall on Waylen who was the easier target of the two. Shaemus, however, would always do something to get his father's attention and would thus take most if not all of the undue punishment. The brothers would leave their father once Shaemus turned eighteen.
The dark-haired man managed to get a small studio apartment in which he and Waylen moved into. Shaemus had graduated from high school by then and had managed to get a job down at the harbor moving cargo. He worked as Waylen's provider (he was nine at the time), and fed, clothed, and put the boy through school.
Time passed and eventually Shaemus was able to afford a large apartment in a better part of the city. He enrolled Waylen in the best local high school and things were looking up for the two. Yet fate would strike again and deliver a crushing blow to the family of two. Late at night Waylen and a friend were driving in the city. They parked in a nearly abandoned parking garage to get a smoke when someone rushed the car. Everything happened so quickly, but the end result was devastating. Waylen saw with his own eyes the image of his friend dying. A bullet had entered his skull, tearing a huge hole into bone and flesh. Waylen, too, had suffered from a shot to the leg but had been in shock and did not feel a thing.
The boy was found and whisked away to the hospital. He would recover but would suffer from anxiety attacks and nervous breakdowns. He'd relive the image of his friend dying again and again -- this would make it nearly impossible to sleep. Waylen gets anxious in wide, open spaces or dark areas that are not filled with a crowd. He also tends to have issues when Shaemus isn't home when he expects him. He tries not to act like he needs his older brother so much, but Shaemus can sense it. That's why he never gets angry or mean when Waylen chooses to be an ungrateful brat.
Waylen still lives with Shaemus and really would have it no other way. Shaemus has since become a police officer and usually has the early (and I mean -early-) morning shift. He still pays for nearly all of Waylen's expenses, including medical, yet doesn't seem to mind. Shaemus has had many failed relationships because the women he was with were much too high maintnence.
